Chirripo National Park

It`s situated in the territories of four provinces: San
Jose, Puntarenas, Cartago and Limon. It`s stuck to the International Costa
Rica-Panama Park of Friendship (La Amistad), with which it`s often considered to
be one structure. The park was createdin 1982. As a World Heritage Site in
1983. In the vicinity of Chirripo Peak (3.819 m.a.s.l.-the
highest peack of the country), there are caves of postglaciar origin, which are
surrounded by parano forests. All postglaciar valleys, moraine deposits and
lakes appeared more or less 30 millions years ago. The largest trees include oaks, sweet cedar, nargusta, elm,
Poas magnolia, ira, cypress and manni. The fauna is varied 263 species of
amphibians and reptiles and about 400 types of birds. The largest concentration
of tapirs in the country can be found there, plus the puma, jaguar, ocelot,
jaguaroundi, paccary and cacomistle. In 2002 there were found the pieces of hidden (crushed there in 1965) plane.
