On October 12th takes place "the Day of the Culture" (it
used to be named "the Day of Columbus" or "Day of Races). It`s names thus in
recognition of Costa Rica`s multicultural legacy.
It`s held on the anniversary, when the Columbus discovered
in 1492 the first island of America. It commemorates the diverse of cultures and
traditions in Costa Rica. It consists of traditional Indians dances and
ceremonies. There are festivals and conferences.

The Limon parade

A week-long parade in Limon. Since 1949 it runs October 10
-15th culminating with a grand parade that attracts some 40.000 people. During
this arts and crafts are displayed and a competition where Miss Carnaval is
crowned is organized.

saint patron of the town - the Virgin of Pilar.
