LAS BAULAS NATIONAL PARK
(550 ha), (1991). It consists of Playa Grande, which is one of the most important nesting sites in the world for the letherback turtles. On every year from X to III arrive other species of turtles (olive ridley, pacific and hawksbill) to lay their eggs.
It`s covered by 400 ha mangrove swamps (there are six species of mangroves). Identification has been made of 57 birds (roseate spoonbills). There are also common raccoons, caymans, white-nosed coatis and howler monkeys. In recent years local villagers have been employed as government rangers to guide visitors to nesting sites.
