CURU NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE

(84 ha), (1993). It`s placed on south-west part of Nicoya peninsula. In 1993 Federico Schutt de la Croix established there a plantation. In 1974 squatters invaded this area and the government decided to put it into protected zone. It`s narrow strip of land between Curu and Quesada beaches, limited by sedimental rock hills. There is covered by red mangroves the Curu river outlet. Identification has been made of 115 birds. The refuge also protects white-tailed deer, raccoons, opossum, howler and white-faced monkeys, coyotes, white-nosed coaties, armadillo and boa constrictors.
